1st Year Band: In 1st Year Band, we have been working on fundamentals in rhythm, note-reading and musical symbols. Many of the students are gaining strengths in these areas, which is allowing them to start making strides in learning full pieces of music. In strengthening these skills, our hope is to be able to read and play music fluently.
1st Year Percussion: In our 1st Year Percussion groups, we have been working on fundamentals in rhythm, note-reading and musical symbols & vocabulary. The students have been working on mallet percussion (Bells) and on drums. In strengthening these skills on both drum and mallet percussion, our hope is to be able to read and play music fluently.
2nd Year Band: In 2nd Year Band, we have been working on learning more notes and also learning more advanced musical concepts. The 2nd Year Band did a great job in their Winter Concerts and the students are doing better and better when we are learning to play as an ensemble in rehearsals and concerts. Also, some of our 2nd Year Band members successfully auditioned and were selected for our Elementary Jazz Band, an extracurricular group that explores playing music in the styles of jazz, swing, blues and popular music. The Jazz Band will be performing in two concerts during the upcoming spring season.
